Bauchi police command warn against gender-based violence

The Bauchi  State Police Command have expressd concern over violence against women and children and promised to salvage the situation.

The newly posted Commissioner of Police in the state, Lawal Tanko Jimeta, expressed dismay over the increasing cases of rape and violence against women and children in the state, saying that the police command under his watch will ensure that the menace is reduced to the barest minimum.

Jimeta made this known in a press briefing at the State police Headquarters in Bauchi, where he said gender-based violence was totally unacceptable, hence it should not be condoled by anybody.

Lawam said that it was disheartening that women, girls and children are the major victims of sexual abuse and violence, calling on stakeholders to rise to the occasion and condemn the dispicable act.
“Gender based violence is becoming worrisome problem in the society, so what i intend to do as the new CP of this command is to revive the gender section and ensure that all cases that involves violence against women, girls and children is followed to the latter and justice is going to ensured.
“We are going to be proactive and have a working relationship with the media and human right organizations.The officers and men of the command cannot do this alone, we need your assistance, cooperation and support as major stakeholders in improving the security architecture of the state,” he said.
According to the police boss, the command under his leadership will embark on training and retraining of officers and men to ensure that issues of violation of human right abuse is reduced even as he called on professional bodies, including the media organizations to join hands and embrace community policing in the state for the good of all.
