Bauchi reaffirms commitment to data-driven governance

The Bauchi State Government through the Bureau of Statistics (BBS) has reaffirmed its dedication to data-driven governance in the state.
Mrs Esther Gagara, Overseeing Statistician General of the State Bureau of Statistics gave the commitment at the State Consultative Committee on Statistics (SCCS) in Bauchi.
The meeting was supported by CARE International under the Catalyzing Strengthened Policy Action for Healthy Diets and Resilience (CASCADE) with the theme: “The Role of Bauchi Bureau of Statistics and SCCS in Promoting Inclusiveness of SDGs Indicators in Bauchi Projects.”
She highlighted the growing importance of statistics in shaping effective and inclusive development.
Gagara stressed the role of credible data in policy formulation, strategic planning, and result-oriented implementation.
She stressed that the SCCS provides a vital platform to harmonize data activities across Ministries,Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), promoting consistency, collaboration, and eliminating duplication.
Prof Abubakar Ahmed, a lecturer at Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU) Bauchi also explained that data collection plays a vital role in promoting inclusiveness of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
“By providing insights into inequalities and disparities within societies, helping policymakers develop targeted interventions to address these gaps.
“Enabling evidence-based decision-making to ensure that development initiatives are inclusive and effective,” he said.
Mr Nelson Ngero, representative of CASCADE advocate for improving data use for nutrition and health resilience involves several strategies.
“To ensure accurate, timely, and granular data on nutrition and health indicators,” he said.
On his part, Mr Abduljabbbar Jimoh, State Officer, National Bureau of Statistics (NBS), Bauchi, pledged that NBS remains fully committed to working with all SCCS members to promote a data-driven approach to development that is inclusive, transparent and impactful.
