In what can be described as putting round peg in round holes, a total of 404 Judicial officers in Bauchi state who do not possess paper qualifications relevant to the office have been redeployed to relevant MDAs.
The redeployment which was done Bauchi state government, under the leadership of the State Governor, Sen Bala Mohammed Abdulkadir affected redeployed not less than 404 non judicial staff of the state High Court of Justice .
The disclosure was made by the Chief Registrar of the State High Court, Barr Subilim Emmanuel Danjuma during a press conference in his office on Tuesday.
According to him, “all the 404 staff that were redeployed possessed academic qualifications that have no place in the judiciary” .
The Chief Registrar however, assured the affected staff that the redeployment had nothing to do with termination of appointments nor did it connote a demotion in any way.
According to him, “Let me use this medium to inform you of the approval granted by the state governor for the redeployment of 404 staff of the Bauchi State High Court of Justice to other Ministries, Departments and Agencies” .
Subilim Danjuma added that, “This is because it has been discovered that the Judiciary is staffed with Petro Chemical Engineers, Civil, Mechanical and Electrical Engineers, Architects, Mass Communication Professionals, Laboratory Technologist, Quantity Surveyors, Community Health Officers and many more”.
He further said that, “All of these courses have no place in the judiciary; even the social science courses like Accounting, Public Administration, National Certificate of Education or Bachelor in Education and Marketing have some limitations” .
“By implication, any person with any of these qualifications cannot rise above GL 14 but has the potential of rising to the position of a Director or even Permanent Secretary in the relevant Ministry,” he said.
He added that this was why the state Governor approved the deployment of the staff now being carried out by the Office of the Head Of Civil Service.
He said the management of the High Court was keenly following the process and would ensure the protection of all the redeployed staff’s interests.
“This is an exercise that is in the best interest of the staff affected and also for the development of Bauchi State. We call on the staff affected to remain calm as the management will ensure that each and every staff is treated fairly as the exercise is devoid of any sentiment whatsoever,” said the Chief Registrar.
Also speaking, Chairman of Judicial Staff Union, Mohammed Shehu, assured the redeployed staff that none of them would be victimised, adding that the union was on top of the matter.
He added that the Union is closely monitoring the exercise to ensure that nobody was victimized in the process assuring also that the affected staff will be placed to areas relevant to their qualifications.
