The Proprietor of Mallam Kawu Youth Rehabilitation and Orphanage Centre (MKYROC), Bauchi, Mallam Abdullahi Tahir, has expressed worrisome over the inability of Governor Bala Mohammed to visit and shower his blessings with a view to propel its progress and development.
“This rehabilitation centre is operating in Bauchi the seat of power from which it is getting praises from individuals and bodies within and outside the state, and even from some countries globally, but it is yet to receive the blessing or any prophetic word from the Governor of Bauchi state or his representative,” he said.
Speaking to the press in Bauchi, Mallam Kawu, as the proprietor is popularly called, said that the envisaged, but long-awaited visit by the Governor would no doubt boost the capacity and morale of the centre and its operators, while encouraging more people to patronize it.
Mallam Tahir therefore tendered a passionate appeal to the Governor to kindly visit or send a representative to see how the centre operates and extend his blessing, as part of the drive to sanitize the society of youths restiveness, drugs addiction or other social vices that portends danger to communities.
He expressed dismay that a significant percentage of the youths are more than ever before engaged in the use of illicit drugs, saying unless the government, parents, religious and community leaders, stakeholders and philanthropists intervenes, the future holds bleak for the youths who were adjudged as leaders of tomorrow.
Tahir, whose press interview primarily centred on his intervention in promoting the course of education, especially school uniforms and other learning/schooling materials to less-privileged pupils and JSS students of Zannuwa Primary School, revealed that after Zannuwa, he would continue with the intervention to pupils in Dawaki, Shekal and Model School Kofar Ran, all in Dawaki ward of Bauchi metropolis.
Mallam Kawu recalled that he started the provision of schooling/learning materials with the pupils an students of his rehabilitation centre, whose sponsorship to tertiary institutions in the state has for years going on smoothly without hinderence at ATBU Bauchi, Sa’ad Zungur State University, Gadau, and Federal Polytechnic, Bauchi, among others.
“Presently, the rehabilitation centre has three students at the Abubakar Tafawa Balewa University (ATBU), five at Sa’ad Zungur State University, Gadau, two at Malikiya College of Health Sciences, as well as in Federal Polytechnic and Abubakar Tatari Ali Polytechnic in Bauchi. The Centre also has two students at the Alkaleri Petroleum Institute”, he concluded.
