Bauchi residents urged to support government in fight against flooding by keeping environment safe

Residents of Bauchi have been called to as a matter of necessity maintain a high level of hygiene, keep their environment clean and free water ways in order to ensure free flow of water as a means of supporting Government’s fight against water flooding across the state.
The call was made by Director General of the Bauchi State Environmental Protection Agency (BASEPA), Dr Ibrahim Kabir while monitoring the August general environmental sanitation exercise on Saturday. 
He said that when the general public support the State Government’s efforts in the fight against Flooding, Soil Erosion and other Environmental Challenges, the society will be good for it.
This Director General who fielded  questions from members of the press during the conduct of the sanitation exercise stressed that government alone cannot fight the menace of flooding without the active involvement of the general public.
Ibrahim Kabir also said that , his agency in collaboration with other relevant MDAs such as Ministry of Housing and Environment, Ministry of Lands and Survey as well as the Bauchi State Urban Development and Planning have being working round the clock in order to come up with all the necessary measures and modalities to ensure the rate of flooding in the state was drastically reduced in the future.


He also said that, pre-disaster measures such as drainages disilting, tree plantations and public sensitization on the dangers of water flooding are paramount to avert the occurrences of water disaster.
While commenting on the sanitation exercise, the Director General appreciated the level of Compliance and called on the people to consider the sanitation period as a time to pay back to the environment. 
He opined that they can do that by carrying out cleaning exercise at their domains and promised to continue introducing different measures for the success of the exercise.
The Director General also said that the Agency is planning to have a platform where private vehicles users will be made to understand the significance of the restrictions of movement during the conduct of the exercise, especially farmers who usually went to their farms and not only staying off the roads during the exercise. 
He stressed that they are also to conduct the exercise during the period  calling on the community leaders to sensitize their people for conducting community Exercise and the Agency will support them with all the necessary tools and equipments and evacuate the garbage.
