Following a legal threat against him by his supporters if he refused to contest the Bauchi South Senatorial ticket of the ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in Bauchi State, a three-time former Commissioner in Bauchi State, Mahiru Maiwada Wundi has declared interest to contest for the ticket.
Maiwada Wundi who led his supporters to the Secretariat of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) on Wednesday, said that his official declaration was in response to the call from his constituents and not the threats of litigation.
He however lamented the state of security and economy of the nation, saying that the Country is facing “serious challenges in our socio-economic and political life as a nation”.
He added that, “it is certain that we are confronted with the despicable antic and shenanigans of some self-serving politicians who have held us hostage for long time now and that we are denied our fair share” .
Maiwada Wundi, who described himself as an incurable optimist, believed that, “those inconveniences are the necessary sacrifices that we must make for a better and more prosperous tomorrow,”.
He also said that his stepping forward to contest was not a consequence of the legal threat but his belief that the nation’s hope lies in the quality of laws made by the legislatures. He described the legislature as the focal point for any democratic society.
According to Maiwada Wundi, Nigeria is at the verge of collapse and there was a need for an energetic individual to reposition it.
He lamented that after over 20 years of the democratic dispensation in Bauchi South, there was nothing to show for the representation by for lawmakers.
