Bauchi, UN Women dialogue identifies emotional, physical abuse, others as responsible for Gender-Based Violence

Bauchi State Ministry of Women Affairs and Child Development in collaboration with UN Women, organized stakeholders and community dialogue aimed to advance advocacy, social norms, and policy change in the state.

Speaking at the one-day stakeholders engagement in Bauchi, the Desk Officer at the Ministry of Women Affairs, Hadiza Isah Ahmed, said the initiative aims to sensitize communities on preventing gender-based violence (GBV), particularly against girls and women with a view to reduce cases in the state and promote a culture of respect and protection for girls and women.

She stated that the project is a collaborative effort between the ministry and UN Women, targeting four local government areas of Alkaleri, Bauchi, Dambam, and Zaki where GBV cases are prevalent.

Other speakers at the event, include representatives from the State Ministry of Justice, clergymen and community leaders, where they emphasized the need for God fearing, attitude and behavioral changes, proper monitoring of children, and listening to their complaints to prevent GBV.
