BEA Scholarship: 72 Scholars To Depart Nigeria For Hungary

Seventy-two scholars who have been selected for the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) Scholarship Award this year, will be departing Nigeria for Hungary on September 22 and 23, 2023.

Speaking during the Pre-departure briefing on Thursday, the Minister of State for Education, Dr. Yusuf Sununu stated that the Scholarship was a reward for excellence and an encouragement to brilliant Nigerians who could not afford to sponsor their studies in foreign countries, in line with the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

“As we are all aware, the Federal Government of Nigeria, in 1999, revitalized the Scholarship Scheme by investing more in National and International programmes in a bid to strengthen the Bilateral Education Agreement (BEA) with development partners to develop her manpower needs.

“Today, in spite of the global economic meltdown, the number of our development partners have increased and many of them now offer ship to Nigerians. The active Countries include Hungary, China Algeria, Romania, Morocco, Serbia, Mexico, Egypt and zuela. Others non regulars include Macedonia, Poland, South Korea, Greece, Japan, Tunisia and Turkey.

“In order to reciprocate their good gestures, Nigeria also offered scholarship awards to China and Romania in the past and hope to reactivate the gesture as these countries and others Indicate interest,” he said.

He urged the beneficiaries of the award to continue to polish the good qualities, learn, relearn and unlearn adding that the country expect them to return at the end of their studies to assist in making Nigeria a better place by contributing their quota to the development of the nation.

The minister also urged the parents of the awardees to always uphold them in prayers and encourage them with sound advice at all times so as to make Nigeria proud by being worthy ambassadors in the country.

Also speaking, Permanent Secretary of the ministry, David Adejo, explained that the Government of Hungary awarded seventy-two Postgraduate and Undergraduate scholarships to Nigerian scholars to study in various higher institutions in Hungary due to the Bilateral Education Agreement signed by Nigeria with many countries including the Government of Hungary.

He expressed the nation’s profound gratitude to the Government of Hungary for their immense contributions towards training Nigerian youths, thereby assisting Nigeria to achieve her developmental needs.
