International attention is mounting on the escalating violence in Nigeria’s Benue State, with foreign journalists and humanitarian observers planning visits to the troubled region.

Rev. Fr. Patrick Alumuku, Director of Communications for the Catholic Archdiocese of Abuja, confirmed this surge in international interest, citing numerous calls from European media and organizations.

He attributed the increased global focus to recent advocacy efforts by the United Nations, Amnesty International, and other key international bodies, highlighting their condemnation of the ongoing attacks.

Benue State, located in Nigeria’s Middle Belt, has endured repeated violent attacks from armed groups, prompting the Catholic Church to repeatedly call for government intervention.

Fr. Alumuku emphasized the vital role of international observation in documenting the crisis, holding perpetrators accountable, and pressuring the Nigerian government to protect its citizens and ensure justice for victims.

He concluded by stating that the crisis is no longer solely a domestic issue; the world is watching.

“Today, I received calls from Germany, Italy, from France. There are people who want to come and visit. There are journalists who want to come and see what is happening here and report back to their people,” Fr. Alumuku disclosed during the broadcast.

“I want to thank the United Nations for their voice today, to say this is unacceptable, and the United Nations Secretary-General who has spoken.

“I want to thank Amnesty International,” he said, acknowledging the growing pressure from rights organizations and global leaders.
