Bogoro council chair in Bauchi calls for correction of population figures by commission

The Chairman, Bogoro Local Government Area of Bauchi State, Iliya Habila has appealed to the National Population Commission (NPC) to address the injustice meted to Bogoro during the 2006 national head count.
Iliya Habila made the appeal when the Federal Commissioner in charge of Bauchi, Alh. Mohammad Ibrahim paid him an official visit on Thursday in his office in Bogoro headquarters of the LGA.
The council boss expressed concern on the 2006 census figure which put the population of Bogoro LGA at 84,000 disclosing that it is the right time to correct the past mistakes in the present effort geared toward a new population figure.
He however assured the Commission that his Council will support the ongoing enumeration areas demarcation by providing logistics and other things needed for the success of the exercise.
The chairman however expressed satisfaction on the job done so far and urged the commission to assist the local government by ensuring a correct demarcation of the enumeration areas so as to have an accurate census.
On his part, the federal Commissioner, Alhaji Mohammad Ibrahim stated that they were in his office to find out the level of progress of enumeration area demarcation exercise in Bogoro LGA.
Ibrahim also said that the enumeration exercise is the backbone of census hence the need for stakeholders to join hands with the commission to ensure that it succeed cannot be overestimated.
He thanked the state Governor, Sen. Bala Mohammad and the local government chairman for giving the commission support to discharge their duties as the nation prepares for a successful national headcount.
The NPC Federal Commissioner enjoined the citizens to ensure that no households is left out during the enumeration areas demarcation exercise.
Staff of the National Population Commission have spent over one week on the exercise across the 13 wards in the areas as contained in a statement by Gomna James, Information Officer, Bogoro LGA.
