The chairman of Bogoro local government council in Bauchi State, Hon. Iliya Habila has warned traditional rulers and the people of the area against acts that would breach peace and security.
Iliya Habila gave the warning while addressing traditional rulers, religious leaders, leaders of farmers and herders, security agents and other stakeholders during a meeting in the area on Wednesday.
The Chairman warned the traditional rulers and leaders of Fulani groups against indiscriminate acceptance of strangers whose mission and purpose were not known in the area.
According to him, Bogoro LGA which is currently peaceful is surrounded by neighboring areas which had serious security challenges, hence the need to be cautious in entertaining strangers.
He further said that of late, following pressures from the neighboring Local Governments and Plateau state, bad elements have being making attempts to come to the area which is detrimental to peace and security.
Iliya Habila also told the traditional rulers that on no account would they accept any stranger except after due scrutiny by the authorities in consultation with Ardos (Fulani leaders).
On the relationship between farmers and herders especially during the rainy season, the Chairman advised either party from taking the laws into its hand in cases of breach of any law.
Iliya Habila further advised farmers against blocking cattle routes while urging the herders against destruction of farmlands in order of to have harmonious relationship just as he enjoined parents to monitor the activities of their wards as part of efforts to ensure peace and security.
The Chairman commended the three District Heads of Bogoro, Boi and Lusa as well as security agents in the area for their prompt report and mediation in crises.
In their separate remarks, the village heads, hamlet heads, security agents, representatives of youth tribal groups, religious groups thanked the Local Government authorities for providing an avenue for the interaction.
They unanimously agreed to live in peace and promote peaceful coexistence and understanding among themselves irrespective of the ethno-religious differences between them stressing that without peace, no progress can be made.
