Borno, Bank of Industry collaborate to garner N1bn for SMEs in state

The Borno State Government and the Bank of Industry, (BoI) has concluded plans to on equal contributions, generate N1billion, to enhance small and medium entrepreneurs in seven local government areas of the state.
This was  disclosed by the Executive Director, Small and Medium Enterprises of BOI, Mr Shekarau Dauda Umar, following the outcome of a meeting held Maiduguri between Governor Babagana Zulum and a delegation of the  bank.
According to the meeting, both parties will contribute N500million to be disbursed in form of loans to eligible entrepreneurs and that, the pilot scheme of the disbursement, will attract business owners from Monday Market, Gamboru Market, Tashan Bama, Tashan Baga, Budum, firewood and vegetable sellers all in Maiduguri.
He said that,the second phase of the programme will focus on entrepreneurs in Biu,Ngala, Monguno, Dikwa, Bama and Gwoza.
It could be recalled,the Governor, Prof. Zulum, had earlier on December 5, 2019 visited the Bank’s headquarters in Abuja, where he made a special case for citizens of Borno State given the challenges of insurgency which has made thousands of people lose their means of livelihood.
