Borno government procures 3000 metric tonnes of fertilizer, 34 tractors LGAs

Borno State Commissioner for Local Government and Emirate Affairs, Alhaji Sugun Mai Meleh, said government has procured about 3,000 metric tonnes of fertilizer and 34 tractors for onward distribution to 25 out of the 27 local government areas to boost agricultural activities across the state despite the COVID-19 pandemic.
This was disclosed by the commissioner at the interministerial press briefing to mark the one year anniversary of Governor Babagana Zulum in office.
According to him, 25 local governments will benefit from the gesture at the first instance while the remaining two will take their turn when the security situation warrants, especially when peace is restored and civil authorities established.
 He hinted that Gov.Zulum’s administration has expended the sum of N131.94 million in the payment of monthly allowances to a total of 12,735 vigilante, Civilian Joint Task Force, (CJTF)and hunters across 25 LGAs of the state with the exception of MMC and Jere LGC with over N50m used for refurbishing the palaces of the shehu of Dikwa and Bama earlier destroyed by Boko Haram terrorists.
Also,he said that, the ministry has constructed a befitting office complex for Local Government Pension Board and also furnished Monguno, Biu and Bayo Local Government Council secretariats.
The ministry which is divided into 8 departments for ease of administration
also adopted the restoration of peace and resettlement of IDPs at their ancestral homes as a measure initiated to mobilize vigilante, CJTF, and hunters to complement the services of security agencies in confidence building.
“The state has also sought the engagement of mobile police force who will be deployed and stationed at Magumeri, Konduga, Damboa and Nganzai Local Government Areas (LGAs) as their operational centres. All these efforts are geared towards providing adequate security to local communities,” Meleh said.
Other activities embarked upon by the ministry included the  facilitation and implementation of immunisation exercises in LGAs in collaboration with the Borno State Primary Healthcare Agency and Ministry of Health alongside the inauguration of COVID-19 committees to control and prevent further spread of the pandemic, stressing,that the governor has approved the release of 80 per cent counterpart fund to the State Universal Basic Education Board, (SUBEB), for  rehabilitation and reconstruction of basic infrastructures in primary schools.
