Governor Zulum of Borno State

The Borno State Governor, Professor Babagana Zulum, has inaugurated a 13-member boundary commission to enhance bilateral relations as well as ensure amicable resolution of land disputes between the state and its neighbours and the republics of Chad, Niger and Cameroon.
He pointed out that, the aim of the committee was to avoid tension and a serve as a proactive measure to curtail foreseen and unforeseen issues that could escalate to communal conflict in the communities and neighbouring countries.
According to him, boundary issues are fast becoming subject of global concern,hence the need prompted by many countries, including Nigeria, to establish such committees or institutions in line with global peace initiatives.
He charged the committee to handle boundary matters including international bounders with Chad, Cameroon and Niger Republic including,Adamawa, Yobe and Gombe states and inter-local government boundaries within the 27 local government areas of of Borno State.
The State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Umar Kadafur will serve as chairman with Alhaji Kabiru Wanori, the Commissioner for Inter-Governmental Affairs and Special Duties will serve as Secretary.
Other members of committee included permanent secretaries in the ministries of Inter-Governmental Affairs and Special Duties, Local Government and Emirate Affairs, the Executive Secretary and Borno State Geographic Information Service (BOGIS)as well as the Surveyor General of BOGIS and representatives of the Army, Police, Department of State Security Services (DSS), Customs and Immigration Service.
