Borno Governor, Zulum inaugurates fish processing committee

Poised to toy the path of economic recovery,Borno state Governor Babagana Umara Zulum, has inaugurated a high powered committee on Fish Processing and Marketing to empower fishermen and traders who hitherto, were denied access to their livelihoods, following the clearance he obtained from the Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt.-Gen  Tukur Buratai.
Inaugurating the committee at the Government House, Maiduguri, Prof. Zulum,recalled that fishing activities which forms part of Agricultural activities of the state was banned for  four to five years by the Military following allegations that the insurgents have taken over the processing and marketing of fish and using the proceeds to purchase weapons to further fight their course to the detriment of the country.
He explained that communities in Borno are largely agrarian,pointing out that the ban had brought untold hardships on the people because they had lost their source of livelihood.
He said that following the approval by the military hierarchy to re-open fish processing and trading activities in the state, it is hoped that even the revenue base of the state will be enhanced as very reliable and strong structures have been put in place to ensure that insurgents no more have access to proceeds of the fish marketing.
Governor Zulum charged the committee to face the task ahead of it assidiously and work effectively to forstall any future ban,adding that fish marketers should co-operate with the committee to ensure it succeeds.
Responding, the Chairman of the committee who is also the Attorney General of the state, Barrister Kaka Shehu Lawan,expressed profound gratitude to  the governor for finding them worthy to be given the task.
He assured that members of the committee will  maintain the trust which they have been given stressing that his committee will work in concert with the law enforcement agents to arrest any miscreant and also to enhance the revenue base of the state.
