Borno to observe Eid-el-Fitir prayers amidst increase in COVID-19 infections

The High Powered Committee on Prevention and Mitigation of Covid-19 in BORNO state,has said that all Muslims will observe the Eid-El-Fitr prayers between 8:00am and 10:00am on sallah day across the state.
The Chairman of the Committee, Alhaji Umar Usman Kadafur, in a press statement urged Muslims to adhere strictly to hand washing, social distancing and the use of face mask among other protocols of COVID-19 pandemic.
In a statement signed by the secretary of the Committee, Dr Salihu Kwayabura and made available to newsmen in Maiduguri said,”that the public may observe the Eid-el-Fitr prayers at the designated Eid grounds between the hours of 8-10 am on that day.
According to Dr Salihu Kwayabura who is also commissioner of health added that in furtherance of measures of infection prevention, the committee has made available hand sanitizers at strategic points for use by the public, and therefore urge them to take full advantage of such.”
He advised the general public to strictly adhere to the advice of the health professionals, reiterated that the public should strongly observe the use of face masks and practice social distancing and that all persons above 60 years of age, especially those with chronic medical conditions such as diabetes mellitus, asthma or chronic respiratory disease and acute febrile illnesses should please refrain from attending the Eid prayers.”
Used the occasion to felicitate with the Muslim Ummah and the good people of Borno State during this period of Ramadan and appreciated the co-operation and commitment of all and sundry towards the fight against the covid-19 pandemic in the state and prayed that Allah should accept their ibadat wishing them happy Sallah celebration.
The statement further acknowledged the fact that, some of the measures taken might have a lot of inconveniences on a large proportion of the public, but I wish to reiterate that all decisions were taken in good faith, in furtherance of the responsibilities of government, which is generally compassionate and responsive as the committee held wide consultations with the Ulamas in the state.
