By  Dauda R Pam, Maiduguri
Governor Babagana Zulum of Borno State, has commenced the assessment of moribund industries in order to improve the state revenue  profile and it’s internally generated revenue, (IGR), base.

He disclosed this, while inspecting the burnt down section of Maiduguri international hotels along Damboa road in the state capital, stressing thst Government is determined to reconstruct and resuscitate the six state owned industries that have been abandoned before he assumed the mantle of leadership.
The industries and hotels to be revived,he said, included Fertilizer Blending Plant, NIETAL shoe factory, Steel and Wire industry, Borno Supply Company, Maiduguri International Hotels and the State Hotel all located within the state capital.
While making some remarks on the economic viability of the industries, he said: “As we commence the assessment and technical evaluation of the industries,it will enhance the State’s Internally Generated Revenue,IGR”,in the long run.
And directed the Commissioner of Agriculture, Alhaji Bukar Talba, incharge of the Fertilizer Blending Plant to submit a detailed proposal of all the requirements needed for the plant to resume production of fertilizers but however, noted that considering the security situation, the company can only produce  blended fertilizer as approved by the Federal Government.
“I think the major problem of this fertilizer blending plant is negligence. Its destroyed structures could have been roofed,” noting that these are areas most industries are facing to operate efficiently and generate more revenues.”
On the dormant industries, Zulum said: “I think we cannot just invest. First and foremost, we have to do a feasibility study to determine its viability and profitability. “We are aware of the sanction on use of fertilizers in the Northeast, especially Urea fertilizer.
He also directed the Ministry of Commerce and Industry to invite qualified technicians to thoroughly assess the requirements for the resuscitation of NIETAL shoe factory.
“I don’t mind calling those that have retired to cross pollinate ideas and come up with an effective and efficient plan,” warning that the ministry of commerce and industry should not install factory equipment that do not function.
Also for resuscitation are the Borno Steel and Wire Industry in Umarari along Baga road and inspected facilities at Borno Supply Company (BOSCO), and the ongoing rehabilitation of BOSCO filling station at the GRA Police station interacted with the management staff and assured them of prompt release of funds.
“We shall ensure timely release of funds to you. This is one of the mega fuel stations we intend to complete this year for motorists.
