President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has accepted the resignation of Minister of Innovation, Science and Technology, Geoffrey Uche Nnaji, following allegations of certificate forgery leveled against him.
Nnaji, who joined the federal cabinet in August 2023, stepped down via a resignation letter submitted on Tuesday. In the letter, he thanked President Tinubu for the opportunity to serve, while attributing his decision to what he described as a politically motivated smear campaign.
“I have chosen to step aside in order not to allow ongoing distractions, driven by blackmail from political adversaries, to undermine the administration’s focus,” Nnaji wrote.
President Tinubu, in response, acknowledged Nnaji’s service and wished him well in his future endeavors. The resignation was confirmed in a statement released Tuesday, October 7, by the Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, Bayo Onanuga.
The development comes as the administration continues to face scrutiny over the vetting of ministerial appointees.
