By Akpan David, Calabar

The spokesman of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star, Dr. Amah Williams has in detail clarified the circumstances surrounded reported death of a member of the spiritual organisation, Deaconess Uju Onyeyilli in Maryland, USA and the attendant comments in social media.

In a statement issued at the world headquarters of the organization in Calabar, Nigeria, Williams denied that the woman was isolated by her family because she was a member of the spiritual organisation, stressing that such was false and a complete misrepresentation of facts.

According to him, the deceased younger brother,  an Archbishop as well as brethren of the fold in USA kept tab following the reported death, and were fully at the funeral in USA.

Read Williams’ explanation: “Our attention has been drawn to a story carried by Lindaikejisblog and trending recently online about the death of our dear sister, Deaconess Uju Onyeyilli in Maryland, USA.

“Though, the originator of the post never mentioned BCS neither did he or she made allusion to it, but the trend of comments following the post tend to distort the truth about what truly happened to our sister and thus paint Brotherhood of the Cross and Star in bad light.

“It has therefore become necessary to set the records straight by presenting the truth about what truly happened and the circumstances surrounding our sister’s death.

Though our Sister, Deaconess Uju Onyeyilli had an accident several weeks before her death. She had survived the accident and that is not the cause of her death as insinuated by the trending post.

Five days prior to the discovery of her body, she had fellowshiped with brethren at our Atlanta Bethel and also had communication with her younger brother in Nigeria, His Grace, Archbishop Arinze Onyeyili, before going back to her residence in Maryland.

During the conversation, the younger brother noticed that she wasn’t sounding very well and had been calling her line incessantly from the next day when he assumed she must have rested from her journey without receiving a reply. By the fifth day, he reached out to our brethren in Washington DC, who immediately went to her apartment to check on her. After several knocks on her door with no response, the brethren alerted the Police.

The Police on arrival forcefully opened the door to her apartment where she was found dead on her bed.The autopsy revealed that she has been dead for four days and she was diabetic.

Brethren, after receiving the authorization from her family in Nigeria had since laid her to rest in accordance with the doctrine of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star on Saturday 21st October 2023 in Maryland, USA. The purported accident story, abandoning of her vehicle and her being isolated by her family because she was a member of Brotherhood of the Cross and Star is nothing but false and is a complete misrepresentation of facts. We hereby urge the general public to disregard the concocted story as this issue had since been resolved. Her family and community were fully in accord and fully represented during the funeral. BCS is a universal organization where love and bearing one another’s burden as taught by our Lord Jesus Christ is not only preached but practiced. Hence the false narrative expressed in the comments following the said post should be disregarded as they do not represent what BCS is.”
