There was a mild drama at the Bauchi House of Assembly when its Committee on Education purportedly walked out the state Commissioner of Education, Dr Aliyu Usman Tilde from budget defence proceedings for what it described as “disrespecting the committee’s integrity’.
The disclosure was made by Alhaji Babayo Mohammmed Akuyam, Chairman of the House Committee on Education when he briefed Journalists covering proceedings of the House on Friday.
He said that the Committee walked out the Commissioner for disrespecting it as well as not recognizing the Committee that means he was disrespectful to the House of Assembly as an arm of government.
Babayo Akuyam further said that the Commissioner was supposed to come at 10 am on Friday to defend the budgetary allocation to his Ministry but decided to come one hour late and was entertained despite keeping them waiting.
A visibly angry Babayo Akuyam said that, “We were trying to explain ourselves to him, but he interfered and enquired who we are ? We are legislature and another arm of government” .
The legislator said that, “Therefore, we asked him to go when he realized we are something ,he should come back for the defense, because, we have 8 days from today to end the budget defence proceedings” .
The Committee Chairman emphasized that, “If he did not come back to defend, the education sector would get 0 allocation in the 2022 budget” .
According to him, even the Governor and his other Executives Council members have come before the House of Assembly for defence.
Meanwhile, all the efforts made to get the state Commissioner of Education, Dr Aliyu Tilde to react to the development proved abortive as he declined to comment to Journalists in the House of Assembly premises on his way out of the complex.
Also, calles put across to his mobile line were neither picked nor responded to just as he did not reply sms sent to his phone number.
