Businessman bags 2 years jail term for illegal possession of firearms
A Plateau Chief Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday in Jos, sentenced a 35-year-old Inusa Shuaibu to two years imprisonment for illegal possession of firearms.
The Chief Magistrate Jovita Binjin, sentenced the accused to two years imprisonment after he pleaded guilty to the offence.
Binjin, however, gave the convict an option to pay N20, 000 as fine.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Bitrus Azanku told the court that the case was transferred from Wase Divisional Police Headquarters to State Criminal Investigation Department (CID) on May 13, 2018.
Azanku said that the Vigilance group in Gimbi Sofiyo village of Wase Local Government Area arrested the accused.
“On further investigation, it was discovered that the accused belongs to a group of thieves who had been terrorising residents of the area.
“When the house of accused was searched by a team of policemen, two locally- made pistols, two live ammunition, two motorcycles, 1 Itel phone and MP3 player were recovered from him,
“On arraignment, the accused pleaded guilty to the offence, which contravenes Section 27 (1) of the Firearms Act Cap F 28 LFN, ‘’ the prosecutor said. (NAN)
