The Chairman of Argungu Local Government Area in Kebbi State, Sani Aliyu Gulma, says relative peace has returned to Natsini village and its surrounding after the Lakurawas invasion and rustling away over 500 herds of cattle belonging to one Lawali Black and some Fulani herdsmen.

He said the restoration of peace was facilitated by Governor Idris who authorized the deployment of heavy security forces from the State capital and engaged the bandits forcing them to retreat leaving behind some cows, adding that efforts were being made to recover the remaining stolen animals.

The Chairman said the Local Government was assessing the security loopholes in the affected areas with the view of putting formidable protection for the inhabitants, stressing that while government would leave no stone unturned in protecting the lives and property of its citizens, he urged them to report suspicious elements to law enforcement agencies for prompt action.

The Kebbi State Police Command’s Spokesman, SP Nafiu Abubakar, commenting on the incident confirmed the death of two police personnel who lost their lives during the gun battle that also saw some of the bandits escape into the forest with various degrees of gunshot wounds.

He revealled that the Commissioner of Police, Kebbi State Command, CP Bello M. Sani, condemned the unfortunate incident, prayed for the souls of the deceased police officers to rest in peace, and wished their immediate families and well-wishers the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

“The CP also conducted an on-the-spot assessment of the scene, after which he visited the Emir of Argungu, Sama’ila Muhammad Mera, CON, to offer condolences and brief him on the efforts of combined security agencies towards combating crimes in the area,” SP Abubakar revealed.

He said the incident took place last Friday when armed hoodlums suspected to be Lakurawa bandits on motorcycles invaded Alhaji Lawal Black Farm and nearby Fulani settlements located at Natsini village, along Argungu/Kangiwa road and rustled over 500 cows and killed two police oficers from the team of Police Safer Highway patrol during the gun battle.
