The 100 year old Catholic Church in Ogoja

The Catholic Church Diocese of Ogoja in Cross River State has ordained new set of 15 Deacons to commemorate its 100 years of existence in the community.
The Bishop of the Diocese, Most Rev Donatus Edet Akpan performed the ordination on Saturday 10 December 2022.
The Diocese has been in a celebration mood for one month.
The first out station, St Patrick’s Parish, Kakwagom -Boki, was opened in 1922 by Fr James Mellet CSSp.
The Parish Church of St Patrick was erected by Rev Fr John F Sheehan sps in 1957 and dedicated same year on 17 March by Most Rev Thomas McGettrick sps, pioneer Bishop of Ogoja Diocese.
The Celebration witnessed Centenary Football cup competition, Culutral displays, Baptism, Confirmation, and Group Wedding.
Earlier at St Bendict’s Cathedral, Igoli Ogoja, some Sisters of a young congregation, the Missionary Daughters of Mary, Mother of Perpetual Help, took the vows of Chastity, Obedience and Poverty, before their Foundress/Mother General, during a Mass celebrated by his Lordship, Most Rev Donatus Edet Akpan of the Catholic Diocese of Ogoja.
Significantly this event took place on the day the Church observes the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary.
