Nigeria’s Catholic Women Organization (CWO) expressed its strong support for the new Secretary General of the Catholic Secretariat of Nigeria (CSN), Fr. Michael Banjo, during a January 24, 2025 visit, coinciding with International Day of Education.

Led by National President Dame Mary Asibi-Gonsum, the CWO delegation offered prayers and encouragement to Fr. Banjo, emphasizing the vital role of women in the Church and society.

Dame Asibi-Gonsum urged Fr. Banjo to seek guidance from the Blessed Virgin Mary, while Board of Trustee Chairman Mrs. Comfort Gabriel Akpan highlighted God’s unwavering support.

“We advise you to always seek the intercession of the Blessed Virgin Mary when faced with any difficulty,” she said. “As mothers, we pledge our support to you as you pilot the activities of the church here in Nigeria.”

“God does not choose perfect people,” she said. “Once God chooses, he goes with that person. God has chosen you among all the priests, and he will see you through. Just listen to him at all times and do not be overtaken by anything.”

The CWO’s National Sister Adviser, Rev. Sr. Assumpta Taiwo, SSMA, conveyed congratulations on behalf of the absent National Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Jonas Unegbu.

Fr. Banjo thanked the CWO for its longstanding support, acknowledging the significant contribution of women to children’s moral development and expressing his hope for continued collaboration with the organization.

“I pray that the Lord will continue to bless what you do,” he said. “The CSN will continue to work closely with you, and I pray that the collaboration will continue to grow.”
