Centre records 2,133 cases of sexual, emotional, psychological violence in southern Kaduna

Salama Sexual Assault Referral Center (SARC) in Kafanchan, covering Kaduna South Senatorial zone has recorded 2,133 cases on sexual, emotional and psychological violence since establishment in 2019 to May, 2022.
According to the center, 1,827 women and 306 males have survived from one kind of molestation or the other as recorded by the center.
The center manager, Grace Yohannah Abbin revealed in a lecture on Domestic Violence organized by Women in College of Education (WICE), Gidan Waya chapter in Kaduna state, Wednesday.
While stressing the need for survivors and witnesses to always speak out at a right time, Abbin said the short and long time effect of keeping silent will lead the victim to one case or another including sexually transmitted infections, irritable bowel syndrome, mental health problems, among others.
She noted that women have important role to play in combating Sexual Gender Base Violence in the society by reporting to the response team for quick intervention.
Earlier in his remark, the Provost, Kaduna State College of Education (KSCOE), Gidan Waya, Professor Alexander Kure who welcomed the idea of sensitizing the women staff and students of the college on domestic violence, said molestation can happen to anybody regardless of age and gender.
He, therefore, called on the stakeholders to be vigilant in their homes, schools and the society to make sure the menace has reduced to the barest minimum.
