The National President of the National Association of Proprietors of Private Schools (NAPPS) Dr Hajiya Samira Jibrin said education is not a solitary endeaviour but thrives on strong partnership between parents, educators, communities and the government.

She made the remarks the celebration of Karshi Chapter of NAPPS’ 2024 World Children’s Day across the chapter’s 11 wards with Loko Tiye under Karshi Development Area of Nasarawa State serving as the central hub for the event.

The National President represented by the Nasarawa State NAPPS, Financial Secretary, Mrs Yemisi said the association said members should commit themselves to the noble cause of empowering the Nigerian child for the future.

She said this can be done by enabling children develop critical thinking, problem solving, higher order thinking, effective communication, collaboration and entrepreneurial abilities that will allow them to create their own opportunities and impact their world positively.

The chapter chairman, Hon. Abdullahi Mohammed Abbaisa highlighted the immense potential of the current generation, often referred to as Generation Z, to leverage technological advancements for their growth and development.

He urged the children to take full advantage of these opportunities, saying they are growing up at a time where technology can be the greatest ally and to use it wisely to learn, create, and innovate.

Hon. Abbaisa also urged parents, school owners, and teachers on the importance of building strong, supportive relationships with children.

“It is imperative that we strive to be their best friends and confidants. Create a home where they feel safe to share their thoughts, their fears, and their mistakes. It is within the warmth of your guidance that they will learn the most valuable lessons,” he advised, underscoring the role of a nurturing environment in child development.

Hon. Abbaisa called on government for greater support of the private education sector pointing out that private schools are faced with the challenge of heavy burden of multiple taxation, which complicates their operations.

“The current taxation regime is stifling the potential of private schools. We need the government to reduce these taxes and invest in the training of teachers and the development of educational infrastructure,” he asserted.

Hon. Abbaisa emphasized that private schools are critical to national development and deserved more concerted support from the government.

“As the nurturers of national development, it’s high time the government gives more focused support to private schools in Nigeria. Our future depends on the quality of education we provide today,” he stated.

The day’s celebrations showcased children’s talents through performances, games, and creative displays. Many children took the opportunity to voice their aspirations and called on the government to improve educational infrastructure.
