Christian leaders in the country have been charged to always exhibit love and kindness in whatever they do in order to be able to bring the required positive paradigm shift in nation building.
They were also charged to ensure that they are supposed to be leaders who should always show example because that is the only way to turn situations around positively in the country.
The charge was given by the President of the Nigerian Baptist Convention (NBC), Rev Dr Israel Akanji while speaking at the induction service of the Conference President of North-East Baptist Conference, Rev Musa Likita held on Saturday at First Baptist Church, Jekadafari, Gombe, Gombe State.
Taking on the subject, Qualities and Behaviour of Christian Leaders, he took his text from 1Corinthians chapter 13 verse 4, stressing that without love and patience, it will be difficult for a Christian leader to succeed.
Represented by the Chairman of the NBC, Rev Yusuf Gwadah, Isreal Akanji charged that a true Christian leader must exhibit not less than 15 qualities and behaviours explained in the Bible saying however, that love and patience are the most significants.
According to him, “As a leader, you will be criticised not everyone will love and support you, with love and patience, you can overcome the challenges associated with leadership. You must be ready to exhibit these virtues.”
He however charged the members to support the Conference President because without such, he cannot succeed neither will the Conference move forward urging them also to avoid sidetalks are murmurings but in love, make their grievances known.
The Convention President, said that if Christian leaders are found worthy first in the Church, they will positively influence what is happening in the nation in general stressing that what is needed now is effective leadership to move the country forward.
Israel Akanji further stressed that what the country needs now is effective leadership that will ensure that things are done the way and manner they are supposed to be done in order to influence positive nation building.
He expressed confidence that with effective Christian leadership first in the Church, the country will benefit and become a virile and progressive democracy not only in Africa but the world.
