Civil defense arrests 27-year-old for allegedly raping 3-month-old baby in Nasarawa

Officers from the Nasarawa state command of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps ( NSCDC), have arrested a 27-year old, Ahmadu Yaro for allegedly raping a three-month-old baby in Adogi village in Lafia Local Government Area of the state.
The rapist who was paraded on Wednesday at the command headquarters in Lafia was arrested on the 22nd of June, 2020 at about 2:30am at Adogi in Lafia following intelligent gathering from members of the community.
Addressing newsmen the State Commandant of NSCDC, Dr Muhammad Mahmoud Fari, represented by Deputy Commandant of the corps , Mr Bisi Olugboyega said the suspect has confessed to committing the crime.
According him, the three-month-old baby, Rukayat Aliyu was taken away from her mother when she was asleep and defiled on the 27th of May, 2020 at Adogi Village in Lafia.
”When the suspect committed the crime, he ran away from Adogi where he resides but due to our men on ground, we got him arrested on the 22nd of June 2020 at about 2:30am.
“He confessed that he picked the daughter of Mr and Mrs Hashimu Aliyu from the mother’s side when she was asleep to an uncompleted building opposite Government Secondary School, Adogi where he committed the act and in the process, he heard a sound of a motorcycle coming towards the place and then abandoned the baby and ran away until his time of arrest.”
According to Dr Fari, the defilement of Rukayat Aliyu was the latest act of the suspect as he was alleged to have committed such act with three other minors in the same village.
“The ages of the other victims are between five years, four years and one year respectively.”
He said the suspect would be prosecuted and charged to court accordingly , adding that the corps would continue its fight against rape and other related crimes in the state .
The suspect, Ahmadu Yaro admitted to committing the act but however said that it was his first time.
Meanwhile, the First Lady of Nasarawa State, Hajiya Silifat Sule has described the rape of the baby and others as inhumane and wicked, vowing to ensure that perpetrators of rape in the state are punished to serve as deterrent to others who may want to do same.
Hajiya Silifat stated this when the parents of the victims who were allegedly raped paid her a visit in her office in Lafia.
