The Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), Kudirat Kekere-Ekun has officially sworn in Barrister Ibrahim Mainasara Kogo as the new Chairman of the Code of Conduct Tribunal (CCT), urging him to discharge his duties impartially and without fear or favor.
She said at the swearing-in ceremony in Abuja.
According to her, “As chairman of CCT, your foremost allegiance must be to the federal republic of Nigeria, the constitution, and the cause of justice, stressing that the trust vested in him is a national responsibility that must never be compromised for personal or political gain.”
The CJN said the tribunal handles cases of high public interest and sensitivity, demanding sound judgment, independence, and moral courage.
The Chief Justice charged Barrister Kogo to approach every matter guided solely by the law and the constitution.
The new CCT chairman expressed gratitude to president Bola Tinubu for his appointment and to the judiciary for the confidence reposed in him.
He pledged to uphold the highest standards of fairness, integrity, and humility, aiming to strengthen the tribunal’s institutional credibility and ensure that justice is both done and seen to be done.
Kogo succeeds Danladi Umar, who led the tribunal since 2011 but was embroiled in controversies, including corruption allegations and a 2021 public altercation in Abuja involving a security officer, which drew criticism from the national assembly.
With Kogo’s appointment, the CCT now has a full bench of three judges, allowing it to resume hearings on cases that had been stalled due to the absence of a chairman, marking a fresh chapter in its mission to promote transparency and accountability in public service.
Barrister Kogo hails from Faskari Local Government Area of Katsina State.
