However, Comrade Iliya Ismail, Secretary, Joint National Association Of Persons With Disabilities (JONAPWD) Bauchi State Chapter has visited NDE office in Bauchi and disassociates the association from the alleged false claim and that the claimant isn’t an official, but somebody who wants publicity because he wasn’t elected to be an executive.
Below is a statement by the management of the directorate. Below:
STATEMENT ON ISSUES RAISED BY PERSONS WITH DISABILITIES (PWDs) ON THE FIRST PHASE OF THE RENEWED HOPE EMPLOYMENT INITIATIVE (RHEI)
The attention of the National Directorate of Employment (NDE) has been drawn to several concerns expressed by some Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) regarding their experience during the first phase of the Renewed Hope Employment Initiative (RHEI), which took place nationwide between December 2024 and March 2025.
The NDE wishes to state the following for the benefit of the general public and in response to the issues raised:
- Not all programmes under the first phase of the RHEI had resettlement packages. Each programme had its unique objectives, funding, and duration, which influenced the nature of post-training support. Similarly, payments were strictly based on the programme structure and not on the identity or background of participants.
- The duration of training under RHEI varied from one (1) week to three (3) months, depending on the specific trade or skill being offered.
The NDE strongly denies any act of discrimination against any individual or group, including persons with disabilities. The Directorate remains committed to inclusivity, fairness, and equal opportunity for all Nigerians.
For transparency and accountability, the NDE partnered with the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) to recruit PWDs for the programme. The recruitment of persons with disabilities was not carried out directly by NDE.
It is important to note that special considerations were given to PWDs, including priority placements in training centers, dedicated support personnel, and programme adjustments to accommodate various forms of disabilities.
The NDE regrets any misunderstanding or inconvenience experienced by some participants and assures the public that all genuine complaints are being taken seriously and are under review. Measures are also being put in place to improve the experience of all categories of participants in future phases of the programme.
The NDE remains committed to the Renewed Hope Agenda of the Federal Government and continues to work tirelessly to ensure that all Nigerians, regardless of physical ability, are empowered with skills, tools, and opportunities to improve their livelihoods.
Signed, Management.
