Cleric calls for peace in Nigeria as Information Officer buries mum

By Sunny A. David

Nigerians have been urged to live in peace with one another, irrespective of religious and tribal affiliations, because everybody is equal before God.

This message was delivered by Rev. Fr. Marcelinus Obi of St. Andrew’s Catholic Parish, Adazi-Nnukwu, Anaocha Local Government Area of Anambra State during Funeral Mass of Mrs. Justina Agunwa.
Late Mrs. Justina Agunwa was mother of Anastasia Agunwa of the Ministry of Information and Public Enlightenment, Awka.
While describing late Mrs Agunwa, the cleric said she was humble and dedicated to the service of God and an upliftment of the Church.
“Mama lived an exemplary life worthy of emulation. She was always dedicated to service of the Church and that was why she belonged to many church groups with the Catholic community.’’
Fr. Obi enjoined her children to emulate their mother and take solace in God as they mourn her.
Eldest son to the deceased, Sir George Agunwa, an engineer, said his late mother was very religious and kind-hearted.
“Mama was religious from her youth until she got married.
“She had wanted to become a nurse so as to help people out of sickness but the civil war and marriage changed that for her.
“Mama had a penchant for helping people. She did not hide her feelings and always forthright in telling you, where you have offended her.’’
Anastasia Agunwa said she would miss her mother, especially the advice she always received free of charge from her.
“My mother was my role model. She was committed to the Church and worked hard.’’
Late Mrs. Agunwa was born in 1939 and passed away on January 10, aged 80.
Mr. Stanley Onunkwo, Chairman of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Information chapel led a 4-man delegation that included, Mr. Tony Nezianya, an SA to Governor on Media and two other Senior Editors in the Information Unit, Mrs. Grace Onwukwe and Mr. Chris Chykelue.
