A Catholic Cleric, Rev. Fr. Onyebuchi, has called on the people of Anambra State to embrace humility and sincere prayers as the state prepares for the upcoming governorship election.
He emphasized that only through divine guidance can the state experience a peaceful and credible poll.
Rev. Fr. Onyebuchi, an indigene of Akpo in Aguata Local Government Area, made this appeal while delivering a homily during Mass at St. Paul’s Catholic Church, Akpo, on Sunday, October 26.
He reminded the congregation that human efforts alone are not enough to guarantee a successful election. “By the arm of flesh, no man can prevail,” he said. “As the election date draws near, politicians are strategizing to win, and the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is making necessary preparations. These are commendable efforts, but they may not yield positive results unless God permits.”
The Priest urged Ndi Anambra to seek divine intervention through humble supplication, noting that only God can ensure that the election reflects the true will of the people.
“The election may appear peaceful at the polling units, but if the final results fail to reflect the actual votes, then it becomes a failed process,” he warned.
Fr. Onyebuchi also encouraged citizens to participate actively in the exercise by voting according to their conscience and supporting the process with fasting and prayers.
“It is our civic duty to come out and vote. Anambra must have a government, and we should pray that whoever emerges is the person ordained by God,” he added.
While wishing all candidates success, the Cleric reminded the faithful that only one will eventually emerge as Governor. He therefore called on everyone to pray fervently that the winner would be God’s choice for the State.
