Civil Liberties Organisation (CLO), in Anambra State has lauded the chairman of Sokoto Road Market Traders Association, Hon. Emeka Mbachu, for his commitment to empower indigent traders in his market.
Chairman of the human rights body in the State, Comrade (Evangelist), Vincent Ezekwueme, said that in the last prayer session of the market, Isimili as Chief Mbachu was fondly called empowered four nursing mothers with N400,000 and others. The nursing mothers got
N100,000.00 each.
Chief Mbachu in his speech said the gesture has become an annual affair, saying it is a way to thank God for his grace and protection in the last one year.
He advised the beneficiaries to use the money judiciously to improve their businesses so as to help in the upkeep of their families
Commending the the chairman, Ezekwueme noted that his “humanitarian, patriotic and selfless dispositions” deserve commendation and emulation from others.
“It is a clear indication that he came to serve not to be served. He has demonstrated in words and actions that he has the wherewithal to render selfless services and sacrifices for the interest and social welfare of traders and citizens” said the rights activists.
He noted that Chief Mbachu is known for the protection of interest of most of the petty traders, hawkers, cart and barrow pushers, jobbers, downtrodden and indigent citizens in the market.
Recently, said the CLO boss, the market leader deployed his wisdom and maturity to save the life of a thief about to be lynched by angry mob for pick-pocketing and stealing.
Last year, Ezekwueme said, Isimilii provided bags of rice to some indigent traders and this has become a yearly event as part of his social responsibility.
He also provided mother care items to some nursing mothers, gave grants of N50,000 each to four indigent petty traders.

In appreciation of his generosity and compassion some of his executives , friends and associates raised another N200,000 that made the total amount to N400,000 which each of the recipients went home happily with N100,000 .
Ezekweme said Isimilii has justified the huge confidence reposed on him through his good works, compassion, care and concern for his members.
The activist appealed to other market leaders and affluent individuals in society to emulate him because: “one has not lived, unless he lives for others” and “leadership is a call for service to humanity not for accumulation of wealth or for self-glorification to the detriment of the people” which is now a norm in Nigeria.
According to John Holmes, Ezekwueme said: “There is no exercise better for the heart and humanity than reaching down and lifting people up which Hon.Mbachu has manifested through his humanitarian disposition.
“Let us collectively and collaboratively show love, empathy, charity and goodwill to one another in other to make our good better, our better best,” he said.
