COCIN Reverend cuts short Church to avert crisis in Jos

Swift response by a combined security forces calmed tension in the Church of Christ In Nation, (COCIN), Nasarawa Gwom, Jos North Local Government Area of Plateau State as commotion broke out while Sunday service was on.
Following the disturbing commotion, the leader of the Church, Rev. Joel Nimchefa, announced an abridged service to enable members return home on time, hinting that the “times are bad “
The fears was generated by the pelting of stones on the roof of the church building by unknown persons and this heightened anxiety in the area which has suffered attacks in previous Jos crises.
A member of the boys brigade allegedly suffered a knife cut from the intruders as well as a member, who got his car vandalised by the intruders.
The church which just hosted a one week programme for about 500 youth members of the “New life for All” from Miango, Bassa Local Government Area and was sending them back after the event when the problem started.
However, eyewitnesses said some mourners had come to the road barricaded of the church and pleaded they should be allowed access to go and bury their death and they were allowed to proceed.
Moments after the burial, they came back and insisted to pass the barricade, but the handlers of the barricade, who are members of the boys brigade told them chuch services were in session and they should wait until it is over.
Not satisfied, they came down from the truck conveying them and “forcefully ” wanted to remove the barricade and at that point, one of the Boys Brigade Officers had his ligament torn with a knife, a development the boys brigade began to mobilize to respond to the looming threat.
However, swift arrival of the men of Operation Safe Haven, (OPSH) and the local police at Angwan Rukuba save what would have been another round of violence in the volatile area.
Arrests have been made and investigations are ongoing by the police to determine what actually was responsible for the near breach of peace.
