Cocoa association initiate skills acquisition training in Cross River

Cocoa Association of Nigeria, (CAN), has initiated skills acquisition programme for young farmers and others in Cross River State. 

Chairman of CAN in the state, Buba Pascal -Kejie confirmed this in an interview.

He said that they have erected a massive acquisition centre along Ikom -Calabar road where they will be trained.

“We have initiated a skill acquisition programme, to take a huge number of youths out from the streets.

“We will  use the centre to train young people to acquire  different skills in different areas of human endeavors so that they can better themselves.”

The aims of the training include discouraging the youths from cocoa theft and empowering them to become useful for themselves and society.

“Welding, carpentry, bricklaying and others are the fields they are expected to acquire desired skills” CAN chairman disclosed. 

“We do not want our young men to be in the streets to constitute nuisance. An idle mind is the devil’s workshop. We are passionate about seeing them better  themselves and contribute their quota to development of the society.

He further confirmed that his Association will  provide  starter packs to enable the youths start up  their own businesses.

He added that they will also distribute  improved cocoa variety seedlings to members at no cost in order to boost production in the state.
