Governor Chukwuma Soludo of Anambra State has been asked to urgently come to the rescue of Ogbaru Main Market in Ogbaru Local Government Area of the State near Onitsha.
The president of the market, Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu, made the call when the leaders of All Progressive Grand Alliance (APGA) in the Local Government bestowed him with an award of Excellence for being the best performing Market leader in the Local Government.
The award came barely one week after Chief Ochiogu was bestowed with another award by the Anambra State Local Government Service Commission.
Chief Ochiogu speaking during the ceremony appealed to a member of the House of Assembly representing Ogbaru 1 State Constituency in the State House of Assembly, Mr. Noble Igwe, to prevail on the Governor to fix their drainage system, known as Sakamori to avoided the market being flooded.
The huge drainage system has collapsed, endangering the traders and their wares each time there is rainfall.
Chief Ochiogu had in the past made several appeals both to the Federal Ministry of Works and the State Government for intervention before flood sweeps the traders off.
He lauded APGA in the Local Government for appreciating the little contribution he has been making in the market , assuring that he would continue to work for the progress of the party in the Local Government and State at large.
Ochiogu assured the traders that he would continue to work for their interest as well as attract good things into the market for their overall interest.
The chairman of the party in the Local Government Area, Pastor Onochie Obiora, in his speech said that Ochiogu is a key stakeholder of the party in the Local Government Area.
He said Ogbaru Main Market traders are so lucky to have him as their Leader, rating the Market as the best among other Markets in Anambra state in terms of good leadership.
Pastor Onochie commended Ochiogu for working in tandem with State government’ s policies and Programnes , stressing that Ochiogu has turned around Ogbaru Main Market , a feat he attributed to his likeness for Governor Soludo .
Presenting the award on behalf of APGA in the Local government Hon. Noble Igwe noted that Chief Ndubuisi Ochiogu merited the award, describing him as a performing Market Leader.
