Community forum tasks elective office holders over campaign promises

Nigerian Youth Inter-party and Civil Society Forum has resolved to hold dialogue with elective office holders in Kirfi Local Government with a view to assessing the fulfilment of their campaign promises.
Spokesman of the forum, Mallam Ali Abdullahi Shango dropped this hint shortly after the meeting of the forum held in Kirfi Local Council Secretariat with full representation of women, youths and civil society groups in attendance.
While presenting highlights of the meeting, Mallam Abdullahi Shango who is physically challenged and a permanent member at the state agency for people with disability berated elective office holders for not being empathetic to the plight of the disadvantaged and vulnerable groups particularly those resident in rural communities.
He expressed disgust that two years after the election, Kirfi LGA could not boast of any tangible democratic dividend’s through their elective representative saying ” this is why we want to dialogue with them because they made promises and even signed pledge card and we therefore want them to showcase their achievements.”
Mallam Ali Abdullahi Shango who commended Governor Bala Mohammed’s government for its numerous achievement in the state, appealed to politicians at all levels not to confine people with disability to begging but to engage them positively for societal advancement.
In her remarks, women leader in Kirfi LGA, Hajiya Aishatu Adamu expressed delight that level of political awareness among women was about eighty percent (80%) but regretted that many among the women folk have no voters card, hoping that the situation will change for the better.
Earlier, the programme manager in-charge of governance of Young Leaders Network, organizers of the forum, Mr Moses Danjuma while commending the Youth Inter-party and Civil Society Forum in Kirfi LGA implored participants to use democratic means via advocacy to achieve their goals, and to shun uncomplimentary remarks in the course of seeking their rights.
