Conference of Speakers condemns Abuja-Kaduna train attack by terrorists, urges Nigeria government, security agencies to go after bandits, rescue kidnapped victims

The Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures of Nigeria has condemned in strong terms, the recent deadly attack by the terrorists on the Abuja-Kaduna Train on Monday 28th March, 2022. 
The Conference called on the Security Agencies and the Federal Government to go after the terrorists while ensuring that all the kidnapped passengers are rescued unhurt.

While it commiserate with families of the victims of the dastardly act, the Conference called on the Federal government and the security agencies to take measures to avert future occurrences.

These were contained in a communique issued at the end of the quarterly meeting of the Conference held in Ibadan, Oyo state, it was signed by the Chairman of the Conference, Abubakar Y Suleiman, Speaker, Bauchi State House of Assembly. 

According to the communique, the Conference acknowledged the receipt of the National Assembly’s Resolution on the ongoing Review of the Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria.
Recall, the National Assembly officially transmitted the Resolution to the State Houses of Assembly for further legislative actions. 
The Conference however frowned at the exclusion of the State Policing in the Resolution of the National Assembly, therefore directed its Committee on Constitution Review to further liaise with the National Assembly with a view to ensuring State Policing is reconsidered stating that “This is hinged on the unfortunate prevailing security challenges in the country”  
The communique reads “After exhaustive deliberations,The Conference commends and appreciates the efforts of the Executive Governor of Oyo State Engr Oluseyi Abiodun Makinde and the Hon Speaker, Oyo State House of Assembly Rt Hon Adebo Edward Ogundoyin for hosting the 1st Quarter General Meeting of the Conference of Speakers of State Legislatures with the theme: “The Imperative of On-Going Alteration of 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria”.
