Corps members posted to Gombe state for the mandatory one year service have been urged to continue to develop the skills Acquisition training they have acquired in camp when they get to their respective areas of primary assignments.
The advice was given by the State Coordinator of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Ada Imoni at the Amada temporary NYSC orientation camp, Akko Local Government Area during the official closing ceremony of the Batch B stream 1 orientation course on Monday.
She said while in camp, the NYSC has equipped them with skills through the skills acquisition and entrepreneurship Development Programme in order to give them insight into their chosen skills free of charge as a way of making them self employed.
Ada Imoni said that, “ I implore you to continue with the post camp training with your facilitators , learn from your predecessors who dedicated their time to learning skills. They are now masters of their chosen skills and owners of businesses in Gombe state”.
The Coordinator added that, “Time for dependence on the government for illusive jobs has passed therefore you must mould the future you wish to have as leaders of tomorrow and the nation ray of hope,”.
She also called on them to look for ways to make a positive impact wherever they are posted to for their primary assignments saying, ” Good deeds will always speaks for you,” .
According to her, the Corps members have began the crucial phase of the service year which is the primary assignments after the orientation course and it goes hand in hand with the community Development Service where they are expected to identify the need of their host communities, initiate and execute valuable projects that will write their names in gold.
The coordinator further advised those that will be traveling to make sure that they boarded vehicles at the designated motor parks and also to avoid traveling at night.
According to her, to prevent loss of lives, necessary arrangements have been put in place to ensure safety of lives and property of all corps members, particularly those on relocation to other States as they leave the orientation camp
Ada Imoni said that, “With the imposition of 24 hours curfew in Plateau State, Corps members going on relocation that will be passing through Jos are advised to wait until the curfew is lifted”.
She also drew the attention of other Corps members that may want to travel by road to distant Places not to proceed on any journey after closing ceremony because it is not safe to go late considering the state of insecurity across the country.
The State Coordinator said that, “If you must travel at all, you should break the journey, sleep over and continue the following day. We have liaised with Nigeria Christian Corpers Fellowship (NCCF), Muslim Corpers Association of Nigeria (MCAN) and National Association of Catholic Corpers (NACC) Corps lodges for use as transit camps to corps members as they wait for the relaxation of the curfew in Plateau state”.
“Feel free to go there as you would be received by other serving corps members “She assured the Corps members and implored the Covid-19 Vanguard not to rest on their toes as their schedule continues in their various host Communities.
She stressed that, “ Adherence to the Covid-19 safety measures must continue even outside the Camp. The Covid-19 Vanguard trained on camp must keep up with their mandate of sensitizing members of their host Communities on the mode of transmissions ion and safety measures”.
The State Coordinator also spoke on Community Development Service, monthly biometrics clearance, channel of Communication, speaking to the press and use of social media to channel grievances among other things.
