Popular Catholic priest in Anambra State, Rev. Fr. Emmanuel Obinna, known as Ebube Monso, was among the prominent persons who influenced the election of Ogbuefi Obiora Anachuna as the traditional ruler of Nkwelle Ezunaka in Oyi Local Government Area of the State.
Speaking at his coronation held at Hilltop Primary School Nkwelle-Ezunaka, Igwe Anachuna that others who stood their ground for the community to have traditional ruler were the incumbent President-General, Chief Willie Okafor, former President-General, Hon. Areh Oyenze among others.
He stated that those were the men that stood their ground to have a monarch and in reality commenced the process of having a monarch 23 years after late Igwe Raphael Nwakoby joined his ancestors.
His words: “Rev. Fr. Ebube Muonso, started the process of election of a new monarch to have a traditional ruler 23 years after the demise of our monarch. The former PG, Areh Onyenze continued the process and when he left, the incumbent PG, Willie Okafor, completed the process by calling for a peaceful election which was conducted and I emerged as the winner.
“The work in Nkwelle-Ezunaka is so enormous that we will gradually tackle it. We will not ask God why we did not have a monarch all these years. We will pull every body together in this task of developing our community,” he assured.
He pleaded with those who went to Court to join him in moving the community forward adding that the election was transparent for all to see if and pointed out that it pleased God that he emerged as the winner.
Chief Okafor said that the newly elected monarch and his cabinet would bring out strategy on how to move the community forward, stating that the monarch is not a magician that would turn around community within a twinkle of an eye.
” The monarch should be given some ample time to repair the community . He should be given time to commence work with his cabinet members,” he pleaded.
“I appeal to those in court to withdraw their suit. The election was transparent. I don’t see the reason for them to challenge the result in court,” he further said .
Chief Ambrose Odie, Ogbuefi Nnanyelugo, in the same vain expressed satisfaction with the coronation of the Igwe, stating that” he is good to us, for fifty something years we don’t have Igwe, the Igwe we were having was appointed.
“We are pleading to him to take everybody as his subject, to help the community because a town without a king is like a vehicle without fuel, to bring development, anything good that the town needs to live with.
“If 3% disagreed and 97% agreed, it means the people agreed. The king will be a servant not a leader, he will keep to his promises.Let him use good pieces of advice given to him, and reject the bad ones, he should not be harsh. He should run an all inclusive Government and have an open do policy,” he said.
