Council inducts 87 UNIJOS graduates as Nurses
The Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN) has inducted 87 graduates of the University of Jos as Nurses.
NMCN Registrar, Alhaji Faruk Abubakar, who administered the oath on the nurses on Thursday in Jos, charged them to live up to their professional calling.
Abubakar, who was represented by NCMN Deputy Director, Planning and Statistics, Mr Emmanuel Idontri, urged the inductees to be humane in the dealings with patients.
The registrar also appealed to them to respect the sanctity of human life and avoid subjecting their patients to inhuman treatment.
“Administer medication correctly and uphold human dignity and secrecy of all patients without any form of bias,” he charged.
The Vice Chancellor of the school, Prof Sebastian Maimako, expressed the need for good relationship with patients.
Maimako, who was represented by Prof. Simon Yiltok, Provost, College of Health Sciences of the school, assured the public that the inductees had been well trained and certified to practice nursing in any part of the world.
The vice chancellor said the National Universities Commission (NUC) had approved the award of M.Sc and PhD and part-time degree programme for Nursing Sciences.
According to him, the newly-approved programmes will commence in the 2019/2020 academic session.
He, however, stated that the part time degree programme for nursing in the university was meant specifically for practicing nurses.
Dr Abraham Ajayi, Head of Department of Nursing Science, requested for an increase in admission of students into the department from the current 75 to 100 students per session.
Dr Ajayi said the department, which was equipped with modern facilities and manpower for the training of student nurses, could accommodate 100 students. (NAN)
