COVID-19: Bauchi governor, Bala Mohammad lifts restrictions

Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State has lifted all restrictions imposed in the state as a result of COVID-19 pandemic with effect from Thursday May 21, 2020.
The governor made the pronouncement during a stakeholders meeting held at the conference hall of Command Guest in Bauchi, where he said that the state has been able to control the spread of COVID-19 pandemic in the state despite the number of infections recorded in the state so far.
Mohammad informed the stakeholders, comprising religious leaders, traditional rulers, civil society organizations, security agencies and the media, that the aim of the meeting is to assist government in ensuring that the protective protocol put in place are adhered to strictly in order to be free from the infection.
He stated that with the present situation in the state, religious activities which had earlier been banned can resume effective from tomorrow.
But we will come up to agree with some templates where we will continue with the social distancing and mask wearing will become compulsory.
“This decision will be taken by you because the decision of the lock down was taken by you.
“We are just suggesting as a government and on behalf of the government, I am suggesting that as from Thursday, we should lift the lock down, even the one in Katagum because it has been 10 days and of course the whole state,” the governor stated.
According to the governor with this “people will go about their normal businesses, pray on Friday and Eid” provided stakeholders can agree on context and character, so that people will go to Eid.
He, however, ordered that the eid celebration will be devoid of the usual Durbar.
Mohammed noted that the state government has procured palliatives that will be distributed to the whole state while already the committee vested with the distribution of the palliative has started distributing in the three local government areas on totally lock down, Giade, Katagum and Zaki.
According to him, the distribution of palliative will continue through-out the state despite the lift of the lock down in the state.
