Governor Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa State and President Muhammadu Buhari have been urged to increase the supply of palliatives to the poorest of the poor and the vulnerable in the state and Nigeria at large, given the impact of the extension of the lockdown occasioned by COVID-19 pandemic.
The Councillor for Keffi Shanu Ward, Karu Local Government Area of Nasarawa State, Suleiman Mallam made this call in an interaction with the press in his council ward recently.
According to him, his ward received 100 bags of rice alongside other items that were distributed in the 11 wards of the local government council.
While commending both the state and federal governments for the gesture, Hon. Suleiman appealed to both tiers of government to increase the supply of palliatives to the masses to help mitigate the impact of the lockdown on the people.
“I want to use this opportunity to commend Governor A. A. Sule and Muhammadu Buhari for providing 100 bags of rice and other items to my council ward to cushion the effects of COVID-19 lockdown.
“My appeal is to ask for more of such palliatives as the one given are not enough to cover the extended time frame of the lockdown.”
The Councillor advised all Christian and and Muslim faithful to observe strick compliance and not to misinterpret government restriction of gathering at worship centers as a witch-hunt, but in the interest of Nigerians.
In his view, violation of the directives could spell more doom as the virus has the capacity of spreading at alarming rate.
Suleiman also urged the people of Keffi Shanu and Nigerians to cooperate with both state and federal governments over their policies and directives by complying with the stay at home order, as a mark of isolation which is the best way of preventing the spread of the virus.
