Pastor Goni is New Karu ECWA DCC Secretary

The New Karu District Church Council Secretary, DCC, ECWA Church, Pastor Bitrus Goni said it has directed all its local congregations to prioritize helping the less privileged in the society as Coronavirus continue to ravage livelihoods in the country.
The Church avails that it has assumed this prerogative as a major preoccupation because since the implementation of the lockdown order, eking subsistence living has become a daunting challenge for the widows, orphans, disabled, the poorest of the poor, the aged and the deprived.
Addressing journalists in an interactive session at the DCC headquarters in New Karu, Pastor Goni stated that the Church is not only concerned about the vulnerable within its fold, but those in other denominations as well Muslims and Pagans.
He added that the support as directed by ECWA President was meant to be shared to all the needy within the reach of the local congregation.
According to Pastor Goni, helping the poor especially in times like this, means preaching not just the gospel but doing the needful as taught by the Lord Jesus Christ. He revealed that, because of the importance attached to the welfare of human beings at hard times like this, the DCC has directed all its LCC and Overseers to suspend all capital projects so as to give adequate attention to the welfare of the needy within their domains.
According to him, the Church is donating food items, and other palliatives to the needy irrespective of membership.
Pastor Goni called for support from government to come to the aid of the vulnerable of the New Karu DCC and others since the Church does not have enough to cope with the number of people to be covered.
His appeal has equally added to the bigger calls earlier made by the ECWA President and that of New Karu DCC Chairman, admonishing and encouraging all members to be law abiding and obey government directives to keep track of the spread of the disease within their domains and the country at large.
