By Raymond Gukas, Jos

The Plateau state House Assembly (PLHA) has passed a resolution for the setting up of an isolation centre to cater for any eventual case of the coroner virus, also known as COVID-19 cases.

According to  the house during its plenary,  the centre should be situated at the Plateau Specialist Hospital in Jos, the state capital.

Meanwhile,  the bill for the establishment of the Drug and Medical Commodities Management Agency has been  passed by the house.

This bill, in addition  to other things, is seeking to ensuring access to quality and affordable drugs in public health facilities across the state.

Presenting the report of the committee set up to fashion the modality of the agency, Health Committee Chairman, Daniel Listick, said that the committee organised  a public hearing on November 28, 2019 to seek oral and written  inputs of stakeholders.

According to him, the agency would serve as the only source of quality, affordable and accessible drugs and other health commodities for the entire state-owned primary, secondary and tertiary health facilities.

The Chairman stressed that “It will carry out the manufacture of quality and affordable drugs and other consumables and Develop a Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)  to guide the operations of the agency,’’
Speaker of the assembly, Abok Ayuba, accepted the report of the committee at plenary before the eventual passage of the bill and urged the clerk of the house to produce a separate clean copy for the governor’s assent.
