COVID-19: Plateau contemplates total lockdown
Plateau State Governor Simon Lalong
By Raymond Gukas Jos
Ostensibly alarmed by its third position on the national table of COVID-19 infection among states, the Plateau State Government has threatened to lift the suspension on lockdown.
The state commissioner of Information and Communication, Dan Manjang disclosed in a press release that the ease of the lockdown has been grossly abused leading to the high rate of infection.
He noted that some places of worships, markets, commercial transportation and others are not adhering to social distancing and these are unacceptable.
According to him, “in view of the foregoing therefore, Government hereby states categorically that such unbecoming attitude stimulates government to contemplate severe measures to address and arrest the situation. This could include among many, a total lockdown of the state, for a longer period, and the indefinite sealing of such premises who refuse to adhere to the guidelines.”
He reminded the citizens that Government by this announcement, wants the public to remember that there is an Executive Order duly signed by Governor Simon Bako Lalong, to prosecute violators before the law.
He said the government does not want to be pushed to taking any decision that will further hurt the people and hereby appeals to all law-abiding citizens of the state to obey the COVID-19 protocols as spelt out by the state in order to curtail the disease and save lives.
