COVID-19: Plateau worried over high infections
Governor Lalong of Plateau State

Worried over the lack of respect for the COVID-19 pandemic prevention protocol, the Plateau state government has deployed its executive members to ensure compliance with lay down rules.
This is in response to an earlier media briefing by the state secretary to the government, Danladi Abok Atu, who announced a more stringent approach to ensuring compliance by the public as the state infection records reached 330.
As part of these measures, the state identified five local government areas with high infection for total policing and fetched out all persons who are in the habit of flaunting the protocol.
Our correspondent observed that the youths are in the habit of breaking the rules as they converge in large numbers especially at social centres, since the state relaxed the about six weeks total lockdown.
Among the local government areas that the state is concerned about are Jos north, Jos South, Mangu, Kanam and Barkin Ladi.
The SSG had at the briefing stated that “Government viewed with dismay the non-compliance with regards to the wearing of face masks, social distancing, hand washing and the use of sanitizers and others outlined earlier.
“We have since commenced enforcement and as you are aware, last week we sealed some places and arrested violators. This was the pilot phase where we measured the impact of our Strategies”, he stressed.
According to him, “therefore, commencing from tomorrow, Monday 29th June 2020, the enforcement teams will wage a robust action on defaulters whether citizens or organisations particularly in the Local Governments which include Jos North, Jos South, Barkin Ladi, Mangu, Kanam and Kanke.
“It is important to make it abundantly clear that this action is not in any way aimed at stigmatizing people living in these Local Government Areas or affected communities, but an exercise targeted at ensuring their safety and containment of the pandemic.”
