Cross River accuses Mbu of illegally ceding hectares of cocoa estate

The Cross River State Government has levelled allegation against a cocoa farm contractor, Mark Prince Mbu that he has illegally ceded to himself more than 40 hectares of cocoa plantations owned by the state.

The attorney-general and Commissioner for Justice, in the State, Mr. Tanko Ashang has advised Mark in his own I retest to immediately relinquish the 40 hectares of the cocoa eatate situated in the Abonita Cocoa estate, Etung LGA of the state.

Ashang said that the state government did not authorise mark to cede the hectares, cautioning him relinquish them or face the consequences.

Ashang spoke in Calabar over the increasing complaints that some group of individuals were encroaching the government cocoa estate.

He drew attention to his letter with Reference no. “MOJ/AG/COM/23/Vol.V/531 dated May 31,2021 which was addressed to the cocoa farm contractor, where the said Mark Pince Mbu was cautioned to desist from occupation of any part of Abonita Cocoa estate or be ready to face the consequences.

The attorney general’s letter cautioned that the government was not ready to cede any of its Cocoa plots to any one or group of persons.

“Henceforth, government shall decisively deal with any individual who encroaches into the estate without authorisation from state government.

” Consequently, you are by this notice directed to desist forth with the continuous occupation of any part of the estate currently occupied by you or your privies.”

Mark was not available for comment as at time of going to press.
