Cross River Governor, Ayade hails council chairmen with most people-oriented projects, gives handshake as prizes

Governor Ben Ayade of Cross River State has commended the local government council chairmen in his state that have utilised well the first and second tranches of funds released to execute people-oriented projects.
The government gave them handshakes in his office for coming out well rated in the assessment conducted by the ministry local government areas, headed by Mrs Stella Odey who supervises them.
The ministry of local government council which supervises the chairmen organised the quarterly assessments.
Based on the outcome of the assessment, the chairman of Ikom Local Government Council, Kingsley Egumi was rated the number one performing chairman.
The second position went to the chairman of Obudu Local Government Area, Boniface Eraye Ewhe.
Yala Local Government chairman, Fabian Odey Ogbeche came third while the fourth position went to the chairman of Ogoja Local Government, Emmanuel Ishabor.
The chairmen of Obanliku, Abi and Bakassi Local Government Areas, Margaret Indie, Farathor Robinson, Iyadim Amboni Iyadim jointly occupied the fifth position.
Odey explained that the quarterly performance assessment was introduced by the state government to engender development at the local government level.
She said his ministry officials had to travel to the different councils to assess how well they have utilised the first and second tranches of funds released to them.
“The first tranche was N30m meant for the facelift of the council secretariats and other offices.
“The second tranche was N50m to enable them embark on projects that mostly appeal to people at the grassroots.
“From our findings, we found Ikom local government council to have met our yardsticks which reason the assessment Committee have them the most marks”, Odey explained.
Speaking, Governor Ayade commended all the chairmen, saying they have helped to project his government.
“You all have performed well but from these assessments there must be categorised performances. I encourage you all to do even better as we are on our last lap in the tenure.”
Ayade gave them warm handshakes to council chairmen adjudged to be amongst the most performing.
The governor preferred hanshake to financial awards.
The event took place at the state executive council chambers yesterday after their quarterly assessment of their performances.
