Cross River governorship aspirant to focus on indigene-centred economic policies

A governorship hopeful in Cross River State, Senator Gershom Bassey has said that he will adopt a citizen-propelled economic activities in the state to foster growth across the local agriculture and manufacturing value- chains.
He said this when he unveiled his 10-points economic blueprint in Calabar today.
He said he will also secure the provision of financial and technical support for Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) and startups within the state.
Bassey said the 10 point agenda is predicated on the mantra, “re-imagine, revive and restore”, will increase the state Gross Domestic Product (GDP).
He said the blueprint will add value on economic activity, agriculture, tourism and the extractive, manufacturing and services industries.
He said his special economic team will drive it to rebuild the state and put it on sound footings if he is voted into office next year.
He emphasises “we must revive and build our economy”.
Bassey said, “We will grow the state Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) through a well-structured and consolidated system to boost state revenue.
“Develop effective human capital development interventions and business friendly incentives to attract investment and business activity.
“Create opportunities for the youth and unemployed to grow an economic acquire in-demand and high value that would adequately equip them to compete in the global market and gig economy, boosting the State GDP through foreign exchange earnings “.
The Senator also listed that if he wins the governorship election, he will target the creation of skilled and unskilled jobs per annum.
The Governorship hopeful said his government will design a transparent procurement process for awarding state government contracts.
